Reference 16718 is the solid 18k yellow gold configuration of the GMT-Master II, produced from approximately 1989 to 2007. It is primarily powered by the Rolex Caliber 3185, a COSC-certified movement whose key technical feature is an independently adjustable 12-hour hand, allowing for easy adjustment to new time zones. Very late production models (c. 2007) were fitted with the updated Caliber 3186. The 40mm Oyster case is fitted with a sapphire crystal and a bi-directional 24-hour bezel with an anodized aluminum insert (typically black or brown). The reference is significant as the definitive precious metal ‘true GMT’ of the neo-vintage era, combining robust utility with overt luxury. Luminous material transitioned from tritium to LumiNova and Super-LumiNova during its production run.
